Is it possible there was some kind of an error in the article? After all, the only difference between 'fourty-four' and 'twenty-four' is one word. There doesn't really seem to be any room for an additional 20 cars in there. but the article you sent me says there were 18 finishers, and the results classify 6 DNFs in places from 19 to 24, the last of which (Elmer Davis) is listed on Racestats' site as having completed only 3 laps.
